PostSubject: I hate to drive anymore   I hate to drive anymore EmptySat Feb 19, 2011 10:25 am

Do you all sometimes feel like you have a "kick me" sign on the front of your car? It isn't paranoia. People just don't pay attention to what they're doing anymore. I almost had a guy drive right into me yesterday. affraid He was making a right turn - way too wide and fast - while I was pulling into my left turn lane! YIKES!! Good thing there wasn't a car next to me - because from pure instinct, I pulled to the right to avoid him. The thing that really makes me mad is the people who do stupid stuff behind the wheel look at you like you were the one who committed the act! Fortunately, he was not on his phone. OOO... That's a rant for another day!

ugh yea..i hate bad drivers. Mind you I'm no angel with my speed but I'm at least a defensive driver. I've never had an accident and I've been driving almost 14 years now.

Absolutely agree I drove a compact when SUV's where becoming popular I finally gave up and bought a tall bicycle flag and had it attached to the car hoping it might help people see me. Now phones, texting and most kids in the U.S. don't take driver's ed anymore I'm scared every time I get behind the wheel.

PostSubject: Re: I hate to drive anymore   I hate to drive anymore EmptyMon Feb 21, 2011 10:54 am

I had the privilige to drive a school bus for 10 years before retiring. I still have my CDL. The formeraly rural area I live in has really become very crowded and people just don't pay attention. They seem to want to be there yesterday. I've had several experiences of people going through the red lights of a a school bus. I wonder if they knew if they were caught they would lose their driving priviliges for months. My one recent experience in my own car was extremely scarey and probably fits this site because I know there was a guardian angel there for me. I was coming home from babysitting my grandkids at around rush hour. I had to pass a back entrance to our local grocery store. People are always pulling in and out of there all day. Its quite busy on that road at that hour. Anyway, I was going pass the road and as I approached a man pulled out very close in front of me. As the colorful language poured out of me, I thought I was safe. Just then another car just pulled out and came right at me to T=bone me. I looked and could see a woman and a young girl in the front seat...I don't know how I swerved to avoid them and not hit the person coming down the road towards me, but I did. It was a wonderful manuever that I doubt I could have done without my training and some divine intervention. After some more colorful language, I thanked God. I made it home in time to cook dinner for hubby. To this day I know someone stopped that car just inches from hitting me. I guess it wasn't my time.

Hey Cat. ooo... Your story gave me goosebumps. I think you did have some intervention that day!! Whew! I also like the fact that you use colorful language. Driving is the only time I use the really bad stuff - I cuss like a sailor then! Embarassed LOL I would love to see these bad drivers have to take a "behind the wheel" driving test every year. Maybe some of them would be off the road then. I have noticed it's not young people so much as 30's and up doing it. And then we have the seniors who should have their licenses taken away - they are as scary as the idiots! Oh well, we have to do what we have to do and driving is the only way to do it.

Yup, people drive like maniacs in Florida. It can be pouring rain and they speed up. I live near I-10, and the trucks are supposed to stay in the left lane, but they don't. They barrel ahead of you, get you locked in. It is terrifying at times as I do not like big rigs. They almost pulled me over for a seatbelt infraction. Why don't they pull the trucks over? Sometimes I speed around them to save my life and sanity. I miss living up North as they did not allow 18 wheelers on the main highways.

I hate semis! My hubby worked in Columbus, Ohio for a year many years ago, and the kids and I drove up on the weekend. On the way back, this psycho truck driver played chicken with me almost all the way home. We had an Omni - a very small car. I was targeted. He got some sadistic pleasure from scaring me. I would get ahead of him and he would get right up on my tail and then pass me every chance he got. Then he would try to squeeze me off the road. He was actually laughing! I had my kids in the car for pete's sake! I had to pull into a rest area to get away from him. Where was a cell phone when I needed one! That was a scary couple of hours!

Oh no, a discussion on bad drivers, I can go on for hours about some of the pet peeves I have about drivers. But you are all right, nobody tends to pay attention anymore, and now we have 15-18 texting obsessive kids learning how to drive. That is scary. I am in favor of passing a law that doesn't allow driver licenses to kids under 18, at least. I am also a defensive driver, I've certainly learned to be, and a bit of a speed demon, I will admit that, it's the Mario Andretti in me. afro

But I've seen some really stupid moves out there during my 15 years on the road.

Boy, do I agree with you on the 18 yr. restrictions! I find, tho, that it's the 20's - 30's and even 40 and 50's that are the worst. The rules of the road don't seem to apply to them. And so many people drive the humongous SUVs. They can't tell where they are on the road!!

I have watched cars while I'm sitting a lights. Almost everyone has a phone plastered to their ear!! And I see many who I know are texting. The calls just cannot be that important that they cannot wait until they get to their destination to call back. Honestly! It is unbelievable.

I have seen drivers who have a drink in one hand and a newspaper in the other while they are driving. I have seen women putting on mascara and other makeup while driving. They don't seem to realize that what they are in is a lethal weapon capable of killing many, many people with a slip of the wheel.

PostSubject: Re: I hate to drive anymore   I hate to drive anymore EmptySat Apr 16, 2011 1:39 pm

Okay, now I really have proof. I was slowing at a stop light just an hour ago, and this young SOB (pardon my french) pulls into my lane from the far right to get to the far left lane. He did not look, he had very black windows and no side mirror. I had to slam my brakes on so hard my calf muscle hurts still. He looked like he was early 20's.

Maybe my spirit guide was watching, because I stopped just before I hit the back side of his car. I managed to stay in my lane. My god, what was he thinking? You don't pull out right in front of a car!! The smell of burning rubber is not a nice one. And the squealing was awful. I am a nervous wreck. I need chocolate! LOL

So glad you were not hurt!!!
I had a guy pull up in back of me and stop, just as I was pulling out of a space. I had already hit reverse, so it was too late. I tapped his car but no damage . I also have had people walk right out in front of my car. I try so hard to be careful but got cussed out at a store pedestrian walk as I had already stopped but someone walked close by after I started up. I was at least 30 feet away and braked.
People are just getting so mean these days.
Also, they are doing so much roadwork here the roads change every day as well as the speed limits.I can barely figure out how to get a mile down the road. If something happens to my Mom I am selling her house and moving to the countryside and raising chickens and ducks!!!

That sounds like plan!! I hate it too, when people walk right out in front, even tho, technically, they should wait until we pass them. I have even seen mothers let their toddlers trail behind them not eve watching. What ever happened to holding your kids hands and waiting until the way is clear? This entitlement crap has got to stop!! I have noticed more and more NOT stopping to let people cross unless they wait first. Unbelievable.

Oh you are not kidding. I don't know how many times I've had someone walk right out in front of my car while fiddling with their cellphone, not paying the least bit attention to where they are walking, and are too busy texting or whatever else the little gadget in their hand allows them to do to even look and see if a car is coming before stepping off the curb. Unbelievable! I'm wearing down the horn on my 12 year old car these days. No

I'm glad you managed to avoid a car wreck, that's become challenging these days. One of my husband's pet peeves about drivers is those who wonder across multiple lanes of traffic, without even signaling, or even looking to make sure it's clear, just like your recent experience. I had that happen to me last week. A car on the exit ramp that I was on, who clearly had no idea which direction they wanted to go, wondered to one side of the road and then wondered across four lanes to get back to the other side just as I was passing him. They didn't bother to look if there were any cars coming around them, I guess they assumed they were the only car on the road that day. I had to use my horn and speed up to keep that car from ramming into me.

More often than not I am fuming with road rage by the time I pull into my garage.

PostSubject: Re: I hate to drive anymore   I hate to drive anymore EmptyMon Apr 18, 2011 9:33 am

The only thing I can think of is that we have been protected by our spirit guides or angels or whatever. I am so glag you were not in an accident, too!!

The kid ended up right next to me before the lights changed. Even though he had black windows you could not see through (only the windshield was a tad lighter), I am sure he was looking at me - I was screaming at him and using language I don't normally use. Embarassed I was so angry and scared. My son was sitting next to me just as scared. That incident set off a manic talking spree that I had to listen to for the rest of the drive. I hate to drive, but it's a necessary evil.

His car was a cute little black VW Passat. I hope he's got real good insurance because it looks like he'll need it if he drives that way on a regular basis!

I hate to drive anymore Empty
PostSubject: Re: I hate to drive anymore   I hate to drive anymore EmptyFri Apr 22, 2011 9:24 pm

I'm glad to hear that no one was hurt with the incident.

I personally love to drive. It's one of my stress reliefs. I drive, blare loud music and just let my thoughts all pour out while I go absolutely no where-but the fact that I'm not headed to any particular place or goal is part of what is the relaxing part for me. I have a tendency to always be doing a million things at once so doing something with absolutely no purpose is nice once in a while. Though, sadly, with the gas prices being what they are now my drives are not as frequent as they should be...

I have been driving for going on 14 years now (My birthday is on the 30th of this month Smile and have only ever been in one car accident. That was when I was stopped at a stop sign and was waiting for traffic in front of me to clear so I could turn right. I was 20. The guy who was coming up behind me (who was in his late 50's I'd guess) didn't stop in time so he hit me. It wasn't anything major. It didn't hurt my car or anything. I did, however, have the paramedics come when he was still there as my oldest was about 2 months old at the time and I was worried about her neck since the muscles aren't very strong at that age. She was just fine. I always have been very careful with car seats and it was a good thing Smile

I also like to drive a bit fast. Although now I don't as much (3 current speeding tickets within the last 20 months..I need to get some off of my record before I go fast again..lol). Between the tickets and the fact that I learned that every 5 miles you go over 60mph makes it as though you're adding 20 cents PER gallon to the fuel! My gas here is currently $3.80 a gallon. So if I want to go 80 it's like paying $4.60 a gallon! WWWAAAYYY too rich for my blood! I love driving fast but I love not being more even more [ghostly]

As for comments about being looked out for with driving I believe in that. A lot! Sometimes with me I'm not sure if it's the spirits or a sense of preminition but I will usually know what a driver is going to do before they do it. I usually even know when I'm going to come across a police man-it's when I choose to ignore that feeling that I've gotten tickets. lol. (I went on a small road trip to wendover nevada to gamble with some of my friends 2 weeks ago and before we even left their house I told the guy driving that there'd be a police man right outside of a certain city. When we got close, sure enough, there was the only cop we saw the whole entire trip. The guy was like...What the........ lol! Luckily his girlfriend [my best friend of 13 years] told him to listen and not to speed there. hehe)

I remember one time specifically that my exhusband was driving (he was a newer driver-i taught him how to drive..) and I said to him you need to change lanes, NOW!! Startled he said "Why?" and I just go DO IT NOW!!!!! You're clear, GO!!" He did and just as fast as he got over the car in front of us blew a tire . It slowed down extremely fast and we would have hit it. The blown tire would have definitely flung back at our car as well. My ex was a skeptic (and most likely would still claim to be even tho i know he's not really..) of being psychic or having spirits around and he just sat there and asked me non stop for about 20 minutes how I knew. I told him I just felt it and knew we had to move. It was unsettling to him to have had that experience. I think more so because he couldn't deny that there was no way I would have known that was going to happen then the fact that i had actually just basically saved our lives.

PostSubject: Re: I hate to drive anymore   I hate to drive anymore EmptySat Apr 23, 2011 9:32 am

I used to love to drive - anywhere. It has only been in the last 10 years or so that it has become so hazardous. People here tailgate like crazy and stop right up on your rear end. Now it's that they are so preoccupied and don't pay attention. It's scary out there!

I've never gotten a ticket - I drive over the speed limit most of the time. Rolling Eyes But, I don't do stupid stuff or talk on my phone while doing it. Geesh. My oldest has slowed down a bit, but he still goes pretty fast. My youngest is a very nervous driver - his anxiety gets the best of him . He will start out going somewhere and be back quickly because he can't do it. At least he knows. Anxiety is the ugly side of stability.

I am certain I was being protected that day, otherwise we would have collided. I was not moving fast at all but there was not enough room for me to stop so short like that. The kid should have waited or gone straight. He had to wait to get into the left lane anyway. He was just stupid.

I can see how your friend would have been a little flabbergasted that you knew! That would have been entertaining to see! Haha. Laughing
