Prayers for those in Tokyo and USA West Coast

Terrible earthquake in Tokyo and Tsunami warnings for US West Coast. Hope all are safe.

My Mom has been ill with blood clots in her legs, am trying to care for her alone (I have MS), and no one hardly ever answers my posts. I am just really sorry for people buried in rubble and worse off than me.

Wendy. Don't feel bad if no one answers. I don't answer if I have nothing to contribute - that's how most others do as well. I don't always have time to read everything either.

I know what you are going through with your Mom and I do empathize. I take care of my Mom, too. She has vascular dementia and chronic blood clots. And you're caring for her with an illness. You are one strong women!!

As far as the earthquake and tsunami, I just wanted get all the facts first. It is horrible, devastating. My heart aches for those affected. And now this morning with the nuclear plants at risk. It is truly a horrible disaster.

I just know you'll feel better today. We all care about you and others.

Sorry for not responding dear. This warm weather has me away from the computer more. I do pop in to see if anyone has any questions that are bugging them that I might offer some response on.

Any major catastrophe is horrible. I, to be completely honest, am purposefully not thinking about the one with Japan. I have loved Japan ever since I was 9. It was on my places I had to visit before I died. Atashi no nihongo wa skyoshii desu. (I speak limited japanese-or litterally my japanese is very small.) I went to a language camp for it when 16. I have Japanese Kanji (the writing) on me with my tattoo, and my girls have Japanese words for their middle names. (Would have been first names but I figured most people would butcher them trying to pronounce them) I did manage to go to Japan when I was 6 months pregnant with my first daughter. On the plane there I started to weep out of joy. It was the first time I had ever done that. Freaked my parents out. (They went with me. They had always promised me that if I learned the language and about the culture that they would take me if I found a decent air fare) They looked over and saw me crying and asked what was wrong and I felt a proper fool to say "I"m just so happy!!"

So it's not that I'm ignoring you. It's that I'm ignoring the thought of this loved land of mine having another problem.

My heart goes out to you with your circumstances. My family has history of blood clots. In fact, most of the females (myself included) have a rare blood disease called Factor V Liden. It greatly increases our chance to get blood clots. Increased with the problem that a number of us never had the fetal heart valve close (when you're in the uterus babies have a hole in their heart so that blood can go through the body without the heart having to pump it. It's meant to seal up shortly after birth) which increases the chance for the clots to go to our brains. My mom and sister had to get heart surgery to put a device in their hearts to close the holes. My mom and sister have also had strokes. The sister I'm talking about is 2 years older than I am. She's 32. She's had about 9 strokes that they know and two of the strokes were large enough she should have been a vegetable. She's the mother of 3 and pregnant with her final baby. She knows its her final baby because she's also got MS. She goes to the mayo clinic and they basically told her that if she wants to have another kid that she has to now or she has not choice to not have more.

I do feel bad for the people there. I feel bad for the people who might have problems. A lot of the places that are in threat of having problems are places I have fond memories of. I suppose I have the whole if I dont think about it it'll be ok denial phase going on. ><

As for saying no one hardly answers your posts I hope you know that I try to respond to most posts that I can. I looked back at several of your posts and have noticed that I did respond to many of them. So I sincerely hope that you don't think I"m ignoring you. I do sometimes think I have a "death" affect on posts. It seems that usually when I answer posts people don't respond much after me. So I sometimes try to not respond right away to give others a chance to answer.

as with OTB, I agree, that we care about everyone here who posts.

I watched with great sadness as the water rolled in on all that farming land now salted by the sea. I wish their was something I could do. But having young children I'm one of the last on the list the Red Cross will call to go over seas. I would go if I could. But anything I can do will have to be done here.. Wendy feel free to private message me if you want to talk if you are who I think you are I'm Moya and Adam is here too. It's just been avery busy last two months I come when I can. But I always answer my messages.

If I came off sounding ungrateful. There are so many nice people here and they do take time to answer my posts. It has been just a very trying week, then I heard about the poor people in Japan. Thank you all for responses. My Mom did have a filter placed on Friday so one less thing to worry about.

And yes, it is sad at how many people died and lost their homes due to these quakes/tsunamis.

It's hard to come back from destruction like this.

Darlin', you didn't sound ungrateful at all!! I could tell it was a bad day. I totally understand - I have been there myself, a lot. It helps to get it off your chest -especially to people you don't know well! LOL Anyway, don't worry. We still love you!

The vena cava filter will help immensely. My Mom's has been in place for at least 10 years. If she didn't have it, I think she would have succumbed years ago. Now we are playing a waiting game with the next mini-stroke. That one will force her into a home, I think. Take care. HUGS!!

i really admire the japanese for thier resilence and ability to stay manageably calm in situations like what they are going through right now. i have heard reports from someone i know about their relatives having been over there during part of the crisis and i can say that these reports impress me. they say that the japanese people have come together in the ways i wish americans had done for katrina. the japanese are NOT robbing and looting tv's out of stores and otherwise taking advantage of the emergency and chaos. the japanese are NOT committing violent acts upon one another or shooting at rescue helicopters. they are behaving bravely and intelligently in this crisis.


i talk to someone via the internet who is from new orleans. i have not seen him recently but i used to talk to him about katrina, what really happened there during the flooding when people were trapped and dying, and the progress of rebuilding the city afterwards. those trailer homes fema got together to supposedly house the people who lost thier homes that day are still sitting in a lot surrounded by razorwire fencing. the racoons and birds might be living in them now but people sure arent.

i will tell you what he told me about the happenings in the city when katrina hit so if youre squeemish dont read further. i am saying this as a comparison to how a good portion of americans have chosen to behave in similar crisis versus how the japanese are handling it. the4 point is that we can learn much from them.


my friend lived in new orleans when katrina hit. he planned with his roomates to barricade in the apartment and ride out the storm like many people typically do choose to do down south in areas whbere hurricanes may hit frequently. i guess they are just used to it there and know how to ride out the storms. i dont advise it but that is what he was going to do. so he runs down to the corner grocery shop to grab some water and food. they get there and the local gangbangers are terrorizing people and looting everything from electronics like tv's to the actual safe in the back office. they had guns and baseball bats. needless to say they didnt go in and drove off. at that point they realized this weas going on ewverywhere pretty much in the city. that is when they decided to leave the city afgterall.


right after they left the city , like within the hour, the levi broke. the flood began. what was told to me after this is still from my friend, but it is info he learned once he got back to new orleans or from his own friends since he wasnt there.


most of the people left behind in new orleans when katrina hit were the elderly who were disabled and had no way of getting out and/or people who were poor and couldnt afford a car or other transportation to get out and so on. many of these people ran to the ballpark for shelter from the storm and floods. i dont know the name of the ballpark. but it was reported to me there may have been as many as 100,000 people there. while they were there, some of the people there were criminals and gangbangers, who naturally took advantage of the emergency. they did this by beating people up, robbing them, threatening to shoot anyone who tried to help. but even worse than that, they started murdering boyfriends and husbands and thenm raping the women. when the ballpark lost power and went into the dark, it was truely like a nightmare or horror film. add to that the psychic emotions depostied, the fear, the anger, the panic, the raGe of the criminals, and add to that the fact that all those people needed restroom facitlties and clean drinking water, air condiotioning, and food. much of that went away when the power went out. the whole scene when it was all over was like a warzone.


if any of you ever followed the news closely during katrina, you might recall that one of the first things they did was to rebuild the ballpark. they claimed it was to provide entertainment to lift the spiorits of the destitute multitudes of people who may have lost loved ones or their homes. the truth is they did it to cover the bloodstains and the sm,ell.


so with this we not only have the citizens behaving badly, but the gov and whoever owns the ballparkj also acting badly by covering up the truth.


i say this as an eyeopener that we need to strive to do better in times of emergency. instead of harming our fellow man when they are so desaperatyely in need when their lives are in danger we need to help them the best we can. to those who sent donations to the victims of katrina, thankyou. every bit helps and im sure it is greatly appreciated bny those who recieve it. to those who can send aid to japan now i am sure they will appreciate it just as much. but for their whole society pretty much to come together like they have is a special thing we can learn from.

The Japanese are a very stoic, strong people for sure. Their culture is amazing. I'm sure there has been panic and fear, but they have not shown it as we do. Americans are generous in times of disaster, but disaster brings out the worst in us as well. Price gouging, looting, murder,rape, you name it, it happens. The hurricane in Haiti brought out this kind of behavior - the young people and ganglords held the city at their mercy. I don't understand why humans must take advantage of and terrorize each other. Western culture in general has always been like this. I'm sure it stems from our earliest origins - the fight for survival. The fight for supremacy. They will rebuild and get on with their lives - all the stronger for it. I do admire the Japanese.

has anyone heard about how they are doing over there so far? is it getting any better for them?

on a side note, anyone want to start one of those betting pools for how long it will take the nuclear reactor radiation to spawn a real life godzilla?

They seem to be helping each other. They are very strong people. I have the utmost respect for the technicians working on the nuclear plants. They were getting very high readings which were later stated as false. They believe in saving face, not pride. They know that letting ego run amok will not help them. Note to world: listen and learn from these brave people.
